Hi,

Effective today, www.BrooklynMemories.com is official.

The move took place over the last couple of days.

It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be but I was able to pull together the knowledge sources to get it done. I'm very pleased and believe that we will be able to provide more and enhanced Nostalgia, Memories and Thoughts of Brooklyn.

A side advantage is that the new site is a workaround for the "Friday the 13th" issues I've had over the years.

My provider is still a Google company but there is less reliance.

I hope you will be patient with me getting it fully put together.

Along with the new site is a new email address for me. It is:

Ken@BrooklynMemories.com

Along with the new site came an ability to have a more distinguished e-mail address. {grin}

Please visit the new site and drop me a line.

TTFN,

Hi,

It's been awhile.

Repercussions from the Friday the 13th incident were minimal. The scar is starting to heal and I have begun to be able to type with my left hand.

I don't know if it is because I drive more and walk less now or if shoe soles and heels are made better but I don't have to replace them nearly at all. In Brooklyn shoe sole and heel replacements were kinda common and shoemakers were ubiquitous. If the shoe wasn't hopelessly messed up it was saved to be passed down and recycled. Shoe heel and sole replacements seemed common.

All this came to my attention while I was in the hospital. A few door down was a pretty old Italian gentlemen who spoke little English, was a bit hard of hearing, but who smiled constantly. His nephew, originally from Chicago who passed for 1955 San Gennaro Festival worker, came to visit twice each day and brought pasta, cheese and meat meals in plastic bags. All the food smelled delicious. He spoke to his Uncle in Italian so I didn't get much of the conversation but the food smelled fantastico.

Every day I could tell when the nephew was coming... not from the smells, not from his speech... but from the sound of his walking on the tiles.

He had classic 1955 steel taps on his heels and three points on his soles; and as he walked he made a very distinctive sound... a sound that brought rushing back Brooklyn Memories of kids walking in school hallways, church aisles, and the highly polished hallways of the Williamsburg Bank Building on Flatbush Avenue. I couldn't help but raise a great big smile.

Even the walking pattern seemed Brooklyn.

Rocky had family originally from Brooklyn though no one he knew lived there now. His family's restaurant on the Southside of Chicago was his workplace and he specialized in Chicago style pizza... heavy in cheese and sausage. Beyond that much information, he wasn't a talker.

I didn't care. I was pleased to just hear his step again. The memories just flooded back.

These are all part of the Nostalgia, Memories and Thoughts of Brooklyn. Do you remember the sound?

TTFN,

Ken2@BrooklynMemories.com
